Presidents Message

Hello

There was a terrific turnout to our Professional Education Group meeting last Friday. And we were all delighted to welcome our Business Swap National President, Christine Parker.

Christine filled our special members Five Minute spot. We learned about her early life and how she came to be the National President. Like so many members, she owes much of her success to Business Swap and the confidence it has given her to take opportunities when they arise.

The main presenter was Linda Ward, our own Coffs Harbour Business Swap member and Margaret London Award winner.

We also welcomed guest Michael Gallagher from Toastmasters who came along to evaluate Linda’s speech.

Linda’s presented very professionally and her talk on Are You Qualified for Resuscitation? resonated with each and every person attending.

This was evidenced by the feedback when we shared what each of us was going to take away from the meeting.

Linda shared her analogy of a small business being like a child. When a baby is sick, everyone is offering to help. When business is not going too well, Linda observed that the poor business owner (parent) normally goes it alone and that is the reason the majority of businesses fail in the first five years.

Terry Wall shared that his business is suffering under the current downturn. His plea for help stimulated an empathetic response and resulted in Terry calling a Round Table to discuss solutions and advice. It is scheduled for Thursday 13th at 10.30 am. This will be held in the Boardroom at the Professional Centre, Park Avenue. All members are invited.

Following on from the resignation of President John O’Neil last week, it was announced that we are calling, right now, for nominations for the positions of President and Vice President. Christine Parker advised the meeting of the process we can use.

No matter what, something good comes out of everything and recent events have brought members closer together and the rallying to guide Coffs Harbour Business Swap through this challenge will ensure we have a very strong and committed Club going forward.

This week’s guest presenter will be Matt Albury and his topic has the all important sales and marketing theme and is entitled – Will Your Business Survive?

President Nominations

Everyone should have received an email from Christine Parker in regard to the nominations for our club president. I have summarised it below:

Please submit your nomination in writing to The Secretary, Swap Australia Limited, PO Box 2143, Gosford NSW 2250 or email office@businessswap.com.au. Nominations close 19th November 2008. (Nomination for is below)

The form should be signed by you (the nominator) the person you are nominating (nominee) and another member to second the nomination.

All nominees will be given 5 minutes to present to the members of Coffs Harbour their vision and plans for Coffs Harbour Business Swap. Time has been set aside on 21st November for these presentations during your breakfast meeting.

We will set up a voting process online which will open on 20th November and close on 3rd December. Results will be announced 4th December.

Whilst this process takes place, the leadership team of Coffs Harbour are running the weekly meetings and managing club business. Your club is in very capable hands.
